Hypothyroidism is the under-activity of the thyroid resulting in an inadequate secretion of thyroid hormone leading to a general slowing down of all physical and mental processes.
The thyroid gland is responsible for the body’s metabolism and organ function through it’s production of hormones. It is a butterfly-shaped organ which wraps around the front part of the windpipe just below the Adam’s Apple. It influences essentially every organ, cell and tissue in the body.
